COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FILLER, WOOD, PASTE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification TT-F-336.
This description covers a paste type wood filler for filling the pores of open-grain wood.
Salient characteristics.
The filler shall consist of pigment, nonvolatile binder, and solvent. The filler shall be readily dispersible by hand stirring to form a homogenous mixture and shall be reducible with odorless mineral spirits. It shall not contain lead in excess of 0.06 percent by weight of nonvolatile (ASTM D 3335), and the solvent used shall be non-photochemically reactive as defined in Rule 102 of the South Coast Air Quality Management District. 1/ The pigment content shall ne 60 percent minimum weight of filler. Color. The color shall be natural or as specified in the contract or order.
Working properties. When reduced to brushing consistency in accordance with the manufacturer’s directions and applied to scaled, open-grained wood, the filler shall set up within 30 minutes to permit wiping and shall cut off well when wiped. The dried filler shall not shrink in the wood pores to the extent that graining is noticeable in subsequent finishing operations.
The issue of the ASTM Test methods in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practical.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
