COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PUTTY: LINSEED OIL TYPE,
(FOR WOOD SASH-GLAZING)
The General Services Administration has authorized the us of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification TT-P-791.
This commercial item description covers a linseed oil putty for use for wood sash glazing.
Salient characteristics:
The putty shall consist of two types:
Type I for use in caulking guns.
Type II for application with a putty knife.
Both types shall have the following characteristics:
(1) They shall be homogeneous and free of lumps.
(2) they shall have a good plastic quality without sliminess or stickiness that would render them difficult to the handle after working in the hands.
(3) They shall be capable of being applied and finished smoothly with a knife.
(4) They shall show no tendency to crumble, crack, or lift away from the surface of glass or primed wood sash.
(5) When painted, there shall be no lifting, discoloration, or wrinkling of the paint or of the surface of the putty.
In addition, type I putty shall have an extrudability value of not more than 9 seconds per milliliter (ASTM D 2453).
The issue of ASTM test method in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with stated requirements.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing and marking. The putty shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice, and packed in fiberboard boxes which will assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
