4.1.1 Responsibility for compliance. All items must meet all requirements of sections 3 and
5. The inspection set forth in this specification shall become a part of the contractor's overall inspection system or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements in the specification shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of assuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract. Sampling in quality conformance does not authorize submission of known defective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the Government to acceptance of defective material.
4.2 Classification of tests. The inspection and testing of the sealing compound shall be classified as follows:
a. Qualification inspection (4.4).
b. Quality conformance inspection (4.5).
4.3 Inspection conditions. Minor variations in applications requirements during quality conformance inspection (see 4.5) may not be cause for rejection if approved by the procuring agency.
4.3.1 Shelf-life surveillance and updating
4.3.1.1 Sampling. An inspection lot shall consist of items produced by a single manufacturer and bearing the same lot or batch identification number. The minimum number of samples to be tested from each inspection lot during shelf-life surveillance and updating shall be as follows:

4.3.1.2 Shelf-life surveillance and updating tests. The following inspections are to be conducted for shelf-life surveillance and updating:
a. Condition of container b. Application time
c. Tack-free time
d. Standard curing time
e. Peel strength, (two aluminum panels coated with material conforming to MIL-C-27725, aged in jet reference fluid seven days at 140°F (60°C).
